Engagements in Central Park
We have had many knights in shining armor wander through our doors in hopes of being their beloved’s Prince Charming. We couldn’t have been more impressed with the efforts of one romantic suitor in particular who planned and executed a grand proposal, making for one of the most spectacular engagements in Central Park, New York City.
Scott and Amy have been together a solid ten years and decided that they were at the place in their relationship where they wanted to take the ultimate step and get engaged. Luckily, Amy knew a guy from her days of waiting on tables at Minneapolis’ infamous Monte Carlo restaurant and knew just who to call when she and Scott decided they were ready to pick out a diamond to symbolize their commitment to each other.

Well… Amy’s guy happened to be our very own Gene Gittelson, diamond extraordinaire for over 50 years. Since they had been together ten years, it almost felt like a long time coming, but in the same sense, they wanted to do this the old-fashioned way. Amy and Scott came into our small store together in order to pick out the perfect diamond engagement ring, they were focusing their search on a modern princess-cut diamond, a simple cathedral setting, to best show off the beauty of the diamond. After looking at a few excellent options, the big decision was made. Now, this is where the surprise element came in for Amy.
The Big Question
Scott’s future bride knew what diamond she would be receiving, but she didn’t know how or when she would be receiving it. We would describe Scott as a jubilant kind of a guy, he was so excited to pick up the ring and tell us all about his big proposal plans. And boy did he have plans. Scott and Amy had an upcoming trip to New York planned to sightsee and meet up and visit with friends and family. Scott thought it would be perfect to propose in the world renowned Central Park. In terms of engagements in Central Park, his plan went off without a hitch.
Central Park feels a bit like Neverland in the summer. Crisscrossing waterways host stone bridges and lush greenery that surrounds park go-ers, making all visitors feel like they are miles outside of New York City – instead of a stone’s throw from the city’s hustle and bustle. Essentially, it is one of the best places a person could declare their love and ask their beloved the ultimate question.

Capturing the moment
There to capture the moment was Scott’s sister-in-law, a professional New York photographer named January Stewart. January and Scott had conspired prior to their visit to ensure that while on a family vacation, January would be on hand with her camera equipment to capture the moment of the proposal, only to be relived over and over again in their years together as husband and wife. Scott chose the perfect moment, in the middle of one of the ornate stone bridges to get down on one knee and present Amy with a question and the most beautiful diamond ring you’ve ever seen.

Happily ever after
The shock and delight were written all over her face as she happily accepts his proposal. More and more of these “hidden photographers’”are hiding in plain sight to capture the moment when the proposal happens. This is usually a very short window of time, as short as a few seconds all the way up to a few minutes, depending on the specifics of the fellow’s crafty plan. We love that this moment can be documented for all to experience and enjoy, proving that love really does exist.
Congratulations to the happy couple, as your jeweler, we couldn’t be happier to hear that your commitment to each other is as real as it gets. We think this is one of the BEST engagements in Central Park, NYC. Cheers!
